How Mount Airy Water Can Affect Your Water Heater
Mount Airy’s municipal water comes from groundwater wells, and many homes outside town rely on private wells of their own. Because of that, mineral buildup is something we often have to keep in mind when we’re looking at water heater performance in this area.
Those minerals can settle inside a traditional tank or build up inside a tankless water heater over time, making it harder for the unit to do its job. If we find that water quality is contributing to the problem, we can address your water heater and talk with you about water treatment options that may help protect it moving forward.
Considering Upgrading to a Tankless System?
If your current water heater is getting older or struggling to keep up with your household, a tankless system may be worth considering. Instead of storing a set amount of hot water, a tankless water heater heats water as you need it, which can make it a better fit for some homes.
Making the switch starts with understanding how much hot water your household uses and what your current setup can support. We’ll walk you through those factors, help you decide whether tankless makes sense, and make sure your new system is sized and installed properly.

They are the best. The techs are great. Rick is extremely knowledgeable everyone is nice. The prices seem high but im sure other plumbing companies are the same. Excellent quality!Posted on Google Woodstock MaryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had 2 hot water tank(s) that worked together our home to deliver us 100 gallons of hot water, if we were ever to actually need that in our 4 bdrm, 3000 sq ft house. One tank recently failed. So, we began the process of getting estimates and advice on replacement tank(s). We are on a well, the tanks were propane fueled, and both 30 years old. Thirty years has seen a number of changes in hot water systems. Should we go with tankless? Or 1 new tank? 2 new tanks? Switch to electric? Many questions and options. We had four different highly rated plumbing companies come and look at our set up, explain the options, and give us their estimate. We knew that to bring the original system up to date would be a bear, as the old system and it's piping was odd and complicated. Apple Plumbing was the most professional, by far! They listened to our goals, and answered our many questions. Their cost estimate was very fair - and the contract proposal was thorough, spelling out everything involved for the replacement system. (One of the other plumbers wouldn't even give us an estimate for what we requested, but only for what he wanted to sell us). MICAH (lead plumber) and his team mate, MATT, showed up on time. They were efficient, knowledgeable, polite, respectful of property and tidy. They did a great job, and we are extremely pleased we went with Apple. Their warranty gives us peace of mind, too. I must add that their front office representative was very cheerful and helpful every time I called. Thank you, Micah, Matt and Apple Plumbing!Posted on Google Kristi RidgellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service! Very fast and efficient. Frequently Asked Questions
The cause may be sediment buildup, a failing component, or a water heater that isn’t sized for your household’s demand. We can identify what’s causing the problem and complete any necessary repairs or system upgrades.
Those sounds often come from sediment collecting inside your tank. Depending on your water heater’s condition, a system flush, repair, or replacement may be the next step.
In many homes, yes. The right answer depends on your plumbing, fuel source, and whether your current setup can support the change.
That depends on how much hot water your household uses and how often demand overlaps. Proper sizing helps you avoid running out of hot water without installing more capacity than you need.
If the discoloration only appears when you run the hot water, your water heater may be contributing to the issue. Sediment, corrosion, or a worn internal component can all play a role.
