Solutions to Mt Airy’s Water Quality Problems
Water quality concerns can look very different from one Mt Airy home to the next. With groundwater supplying the town and private wells serving many nearby properties, local homeowners often deal with hard water, mineral buildup, PFAS, and other contaminants.
Apple Plumbing, Heating & Air has the local experience to help you address your water quality concerns. We test first, then recommend the right softening, filtration, or treatment solution based on your water source and the specific concerns affecting your home.
Why We Always Recommend Starting With a Water Test
A water test gives us a clear picture of what’s in your water before we recommend any treatment. It can reveal issues like hardness, iron, bacteria, dissolved solids, and other contaminants that aren’t always obvious.
Once we have your water quality results, we can recommend treatment based on accurate information instead of assumptions. That helps you avoid paying for equipment you don’t need while making sure the solution is actually addressing your water quality concerns.
Water Treatment Options for Your Home
There isn’t one filter or treatment system that solves every water problem. The right setup depends on what issue you’re trying to address.

Most Common Water Quality Concerns in Mt Airy
Mt Airy’s groundwater supply and surrounding land use can affect water quality in different ways from one home to the next. Some concerns show up through staining, buildup, taste, or odor, while others may only be found through testing.
Here are some of Mt Airy’s most common water quality issues:
PFAS
PFAS have been found in Mt Airy’s groundwater, which is why they’re worth paying attention to if you’re concerned about the quality of your drinking water. We can test for PFAS and, if they’re present, help you choose a filtration solution such as reverse osmosis to reduce them at the tap.
Hard Water
Hard water is a common concern in areas that rely on groundwater because minerals naturally dissolve into the water as it moves through rock and soil. If you’re dealing with scale on fixtures, spots on dishes, or mineral buildup in your plumbing, we can test the hardness level and install a water softener if needed.
Iron & Manganese
Iron and manganese can leave reddish, brown, or dark staining around sinks, tubs, toilets, and laundry. If these minerals are showing up in your water, we can test for them and recommend water treatment that helps reduce staining and improve overall water quality.
Nitrates
With farmland surrounding parts of Mt Airy, nitrates from fertilizer and agricultural runoff can make their way into groundwater. Because nitrates don’t usually affect taste or smell, testing is the best way to know whether they’re present and whether whole-home filtration or reverse osmosis is appropriate.

They are the best. The techs are great. Rick is extremely knowledgeable everyone is nice. The prices seem high but im sure other plumbing companies are the same. Excellent quality!Posted on Google Woodstock MaryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had 2 hot water tank(s) that worked together our home to deliver us 100 gallons of hot water, if we were ever to actually need that in our 4 bdrm, 3000 sq ft house. One tank recently failed. So, we began the process of getting estimates and advice on replacement tank(s). We are on a well, the tanks were propane fueled, and both 30 years old. Thirty years has seen a number of changes in hot water systems. Should we go with tankless? Or 1 new tank? 2 new tanks? Switch to electric? Many questions and options. We had four different highly rated plumbing companies come and look at our set up, explain the options, and give us their estimate. We knew that to bring the original system up to date would be a bear, as the old system and it's piping was odd and complicated. Apple Plumbing was the most professional, by far! They listened to our goals, and answered our many questions. Their cost estimate was very fair - and the contract proposal was thorough, spelling out everything involved for the replacement system. (One of the other plumbers wouldn't even give us an estimate for what we requested, but only for what he wanted to sell us). MICAH (lead plumber) and his team mate, MATT, showed up on time. They were efficient, knowledgeable, polite, respectful of property and tidy. They did a great job, and we are extremely pleased we went with Apple. Their warranty gives us peace of mind, too. I must add that their front office representative was very cheerful and helpful every time I called. Thank you, Micah, Matt and Apple Plumbing!Posted on Google Kristi RidgellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service! Very fast and efficient. Frequently Asked Questions
White spots and chalky buildup are common signs of hard water. Testing can confirm the hardness level and whether a water softener would help.
No. A water softener targets hardness minerals, while filtration is designed to reduce other substances in your water. Some homes benefit from using both.
Not necessarily but treated municipal water can still have impurities, such as hardness, taste, or odor. We can test your water and help you decide whether additional treatment would benefit your home.
Yes. When hard water is causing mineral buildup, softening your water can help reduce scale inside both tank and tankless water heaters.
