Slab Leak Detection
Leaks within your home can damage more than just your pipes. They can also damage the foundation, floors, and ceilings of your home. Slab leaks are especially dangerous, as they are located in a hard-to-reach area that is not easily detected.
What is a Slab Leak?
A slab leak is a leak in the water line that occurs underneath the concrete slab of the floors of your home. It can take some time for these leaks to be noticed since they are underground and therefore difficult to detect. They cause severe structural damage to the foundation and flooring of the residence, however.
Slab leaks are caused by:
- Ground shifting underneath the home
- Copper piping of your water line reacting with the concrete surrounding it, causing it to become worn and corroded
- After several years of this wearing and erosion, pipes become weak and prone to cracks and leaks.
What Are Signs You Have This Problem?
A slab leak may be difficult to detect, but there are some key signs that indicate a slab leak is present:
- Unexplained puddles of water in the yard
- Puddles accumulating on the floors inside your home
- The floor being warm to the touch
- A unexpected high water bill
- Movement on your water meter while the water inside the home is turned off. If the meter is still moving, you most likely have a slab leak.
How Do We Fix It?
We either route new piping above the first floor of the home or dig into the slab to repair or replace the pipe. Rerouting the water pipes is a good temporary solution that can actually last for several years, but it is likely that this repair will become necessary again in the future.
While digging beneath the slab is a scary thought since it involves tearing up the floors, there are ways to do this without causing as much damage. There is a method that uses several small holes as access points to the pipes in the slab. Fixing the root of the problem is generally more expensive than rerouting pipes, but it tends to yield better results.
If you suspect you have a slab leak in your home, get in touch with us right away to avoid severe damage to your home or property.

They are the best. The techs are great. Rick is extremely knowledgeable everyone is nice. The prices seem high but im sure other plumbing companies are the same. Excellent quality!Posted on Google Woodstock MaryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had 2 hot water tank(s) that worked together our home to deliver us 100 gallons of hot water, if we were ever to actually need that in our 4 bdrm, 3000 sq ft house. One tank recently failed. So, we began the process of getting estimates and advice on replacement tank(s). We are on a well, the tanks were propane fueled, and both 30 years old. Thirty years has seen a number of changes in hot water systems. Should we go with tankless? Or 1 new tank? 2 new tanks? Switch to electric? Many questions and options. We had four different highly rated plumbing companies come and look at our set up, explain the options, and give us their estimate. We knew that to bring the original system up to date would be a bear, as the old system and it's piping was odd and complicated. Apple Plumbing was the most professional, by far! They listened to our goals, and answered our many questions. Their cost estimate was very fair - and the contract proposal was thorough, spelling out everything involved for the replacement system. (One of the other plumbers wouldn't even give us an estimate for what we requested, but only for what he wanted to sell us). MICAH (lead plumber) and his team mate, MATT, showed up on time. They were efficient, knowledgeable, polite, respectful of property and tidy. They did a great job, and we are extremely pleased we went with Apple. Their warranty gives us peace of mind, too. I must add that their front office representative was very cheerful and helpful every time I called. Thank you, Micah, Matt and Apple Plumbing!Posted on Google Kristi RidgellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service! Very fast and efficient.
